The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April 2026 increased by 0.1% compared to April 2025, mainly driven by a point 8 per cent increase in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index. Meanwhile, the Non-Food index recorded a decrease of 0.1%.

 

The rise in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index was primarily driven by an increase in the prices of Meat, Fish and Seafood, and Coffee, Tea and Cocoa.

 

As for the Non-Food index, the drop was mainly contributed by the prices of Communication; Recreation and Culture; and Miscellaneous Goods and Services.

 

On a month-on-month basis, the CPI in April 2026 edged higher by 0.5%, compared to March 2026, mainly driven by a rise in the Non-Food index. Meanwhile, the Food and Non- Alcoholic Beverages index stumbled by 0.1%. The increase in the Non-Food index was attributed to rising prices of Clothing and Footwear; Transport; and Recreation and Culture. Whereas the drop in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index was mainly due to a decline in the prices of Vegetables; Fish and Seafood; and Oil and Fats.
